Molly Wilson | Digital Bauhaus Summit 2017 | Being Modern

Molly Wilson

I'm an educator and UX designer, currently leading our Advanced program at the HPI School of Design Thinking in Potsdam. I studied at Harvard and Stanford in the US, then worked as an interaction designer in San Francisco. I moved to Berlin 2 years ago.

How to be modern today?

Being modern means knowing how to consciously deal with relativism. It means balancing intercultural understanding with representing your own culture. It means finding the middle ground between radical empathy for others and having a strong sense of self. We need to understand the experiences of people who are very different from us, to believe what they tell us about their lives. And we also need to be our own honest selves. Modernity is the quest to come to terms with both these imperatives.
