Fashion has usually been conceived as the Other of the West: an effeminate tyranny, an effeminate need to compensate for lacking self-determination and self-expression, an obviously as effeminate as headless mass consumption. Fashion, I would argue, is the very deconstruction of these pseudorational assumptions. It is a refined politics against politics.
